How could you tell a tsunami is likely to hit the seashore? Well, unless you have direct access to reputable news and information, probably only God knows there will be a fatal catastrophe.

If you are going to travel to a place where you are not familiar with, especially island or seaside resort, you should take note on these travelling tips:

Try to get a mobile broadband to check regularly for the latest update from local news portals, Google News, etc:
  • You might not notice a giant earthquake happens few thousand miles away, while you are sleeping, and likely to trigger tsunami that heading to shore / island where you are having holiday.
  • The local people might aware of Tsunami warning but not taking it seriously.
  • You don’t understand the dialect and thus miss the warning message.

When the ocean receding unusually rapidly, that might indicate an impending tsunami is likely to happen in next 5 minutes or so. True or not, you should stay away from the seaside, or there will be no chance to say sorry.

A first wave of may not be the most dangerous but the subsequent waves, which might be delayed to few ten minutes or an hour, might be fatal and destructive.

Tsunami might even hit riverbank if so happen the fatal waves travel inland through the river leading to sea. So people have to retreat to high ground and stay away from seaside, riverbank, etc.
